Built between 1913-15, Park Tower Apartments are set in a Baroque style grade II listed building, steeped in rich history. Situated in the heart of Hartlepool’s town centre located at the corner of Park Road and Stockton Street, Park Tower, formerly the Co-operative department store, now comprises of 50 one and two bedroomed luxurious apartments on its upper floors and four commercial units on the ground floor. The restoration of the building and conversion into apartments was completed late 2008, each apartment built to a high specification whilst maintaining many of the awe-inspiring original features of this iconic landmark.

Unique Stone Facades
Standing for over 100 years since construction completed in 1915, the former Co-operative department store is a significant historical landmark with grade II listing. Designed by Lionel G. Ekins, the building’s fascia is constructed using Portland stone ashlar, Baroque style and incorporates numerous decorative features that lend that elegance to the building’s style.
The stone fascia comprises of cornice on rusticated piers, the windows of the upper floors are recessed behind single and paired columns. The third floor (attic level) is set behind a balustraded parapet with raised pedestal over quadrant that overlooks the Park Road, Stockton Street junction which is inscribed: “HARTLEPOOLS COOPERATIVE SOCIETY.”. The building’s clock tower overlooks Stockton Street and incorporates banded rusticated antae and urn finials at angles and masonry domed, octagonal cupola has convex sides alternated with Ionic, open-pedimented aedicules. The building is completed with a low-pitched mansard roof.
